The Art & Science of Freeze Drying...

At Preserve Your Flowers LLC we have perfected a freeze drying process that is a combination of both science and art. Your flowers are carefully hydrated and then pre-treated using a variety of pre-treating solutions. These solutions shatterproof the flowers, help set natural color, add durability, and open cell structure. By opening the flowers cellular structure we are able to remove water more efficiently. We then place the flowers in our Custom Built Floral Freeze Dryers and the flowers are solidly frozen at    -25º F.

We then place the floral chambers under a near perfect vacuum. In this deep vacuum the ice crystals in the flowers “sublimate” directly to water vapor. It takes a period of 10-12 days to complete the process. During the drying cycle we raise the temperature of the flowers to +70ºF. During this time all the water in the flowers changes to water vapor and migrates out of the plant tissue leaving “Perfectly Preserved Flowers”.

After the freeze drying process the flowers are carefully prepared for color enhancement (if needed). Each flower is post-treated with a clear polymer sealant which protects the flowers from moisture and UV light.

Steps involved in Preparing your "Keepsake Flowers" from Preserving to Keepsake Design:

• When we receive your fresh flowers, we photograph the flowers from several angles and print pictures for your file.  The pictures will be used later to help you select your Keepsake Display.
  
  

• Then the Bouquet is carefully disassembled and the flowers are re-hydrated.
  
  

• We make a list of the flowers and foliage in the Bouquet.
  
  

• All the extras (pins, ribbons, pearls, etc.) and mementos (picture, invitation, etc.) are placed in storage for use later in creating your keepsake.
  
  

• Your fresh flowers are pre-treated with solutions to shatterproof, set natural color (as much as possible), and open cell structure for the freeze drying process.
  
  

• Flowers are placed in a freeze dryer at -25⁰ F and freeze dried.
  
  

• After the flowers come out of the freeze dryer, each flower is wired, color enhanced (if needed) and post-treated with a thin polymer coating containing UV light inhibitors.
  
  

• You will need to select your Keepsake Display within 30 days from the date your flowers were delivered.
  
  

• It will take 30 – 45 days for our Craftsmen to create the display you have selected.
  
  

• Mementos are received from you within 30 – 45 days after you have selected your Keepsake Display.
  
  

• Our Design Team creates a very special “Keepsake Preserved Floral Display” especially for you.
  
  

• The whole process takes approximately 12-16 weeks.
